Shower Remnant - Project Black #10 & Post # 200!

Julianne's baby shower was over a year ago. This paper lantern is still hanging on our patio overhang. I have no idea what it says. But it's written in black. Maybe it hung around so long just so it could be part of Project Black. After about 20 shots of it, changing exposure settings, composition, and angles, I settled on this one.

And by the way, many of you have commented on how well I crop. I try to do my composing in camera. I rarely crop afterwards. Yesterday's post of Lily's eyes was not cropped. That was SOOC (straight out of camera).

Please visit Anna's site to see her Project Black posts as well as the links to all the other participants. There's some good stuff out there!

Thank you! I was just saying the other day how people should get to know their cameras.

And congrats on post #200.

Love it! Love the DOF, and that the subject is off-center!

Cropping in-camera is THE way to go!

Guilty. I try to "compose in camera"... but I'm worried if I get a close up, later I'll want a wide shot. (I know, I know: take both)... For now, I'm going to chalk it up to "I'm still learning" :)
BEAUTIFUL photo, by the way! As usual, I'm awestruck.

I love the crop. And the header looks great!

I tried to look up the symbol just to satisfy my own curiosity because it looked so familiar. No luck though.

Great shot btw!

Congratulations on your 200th post. This is a beautiful photo. I can't believe that lantern looks so new after hanging outside for a year. I guarantee if it lived anywhere near my house it would have fallen into shreds on the way home from the store. But I digress.

I like your new look. I almost thought I had clicked on the wrong link.

Another great photo. Bravo.

I read those comments yesterday and was pretty sure you were a SOOC guy!
"Hung around to be part of Project Black" - yeah, we'll go with that!

Love the shot - it made me smile - I think because it is so your family.
Congrats on 200 - keep em' coming!
I'm glad Raven said something about the new look because I kept second guessing myself whether or not you had changed it. The images really pop now - it looks great.

It says "Joy", "Happiness". It's a very nice composition!

I try to crop in camera, but confess I still do a lot in Lightroom...I like to play with a photo and sometimes come up with multiple versions of it as I see new pictures after the fact. By the way, I'm enjoying listening to the Doobies when visiting your site!

LOL! Well... it says "Baby Shower" of course!!!

I try to compose in the camera too -- but I RARELY get it as right as YOU do!

I love the composition - the off-center image, the DOF. Great stuff, and very impressive that it was all composed straight in the camera.

Love that shot! I was thinking maybe it's better not knowing what it says... but since it means joy/happiness... it's too cool!

Love your header, too!

It says, "Live long, bring your wife breakfast in bed, and smile always."

Love the shot & the hopes and memories I imagine & really enjoy the sunset through the patio chair too.

I am so impressed that you compose in camera and do very little cropping. I crop almost everything! But then, I have a very basic, inexpensive camera that doesn't have any bells or whistles.

Thanks for stopping by my 40 or Less and leaving a comment.

Congrats on Post 200! I love this Chinese lantern photo. It could be part of an ad for a Chinese New Year celebration.

And -- my unsolicited opinion worth exactly what you paid for it -- your new header is quite the attention getter, but IMHO doesn't really reflect the ambiance of your blog.
