U is for Ugly (and Wordless Wednesday)

Living in a valley here in southern California, it can get pretty hot. We tend to jump from winter to summer with very little spring. Many of the gorgeous flowers that arrived last month are beginning to whither away. Many would call what you see below "ugly" but as I got in to shoot these, I found a rather appealing quality to them. Would I call them beautiful? Not in the same regard as the full bloom, but yes, I think I would.

Since I shot nothing else that I have ready to post and didn't feel like digging through the archives, I'm combining the ABC photos and WW today.

You are right, there is still beauty here in these tattered shrouds.

I believe that we see whatever it is that we look for. If we choose to see ugliness in the world then that is what we see, and if we choose to look for the beauty, then we find that. I see a lot of beauty in these photos and think you did an awesome job of "U"!

Have a wonderful day!

There is still beauty in those flowers. Definitely. I believe that beauty does not only defines the physical appearance.

Mine is up now. Hit me back if you can.

Friend, I think you are a fantastic photographer.

Having said that, here is where I must heartily laugh at you. lol.

This post is reflective of a man too enamored with his macro lens. :)

Isn't it AMAZING how God created the decay to have an appeal all it's own? And THEN He gave you that camera... NICE job! Best Ugly I've seen in a long time!

Great choices for U! Wilted flowers make me sad though.

Why is it that you can turn something "ugly" into a fantastic picture!

It is similar to that here in Louisiana... the spring beauty comes early and lasts but a brief time before the heat and humidity overtake everything. I agree with you that there is a different kind of beauty or attraction to dying things. I think it is that way with all of creation. We just have to look harder for it sometimes.

I hope you get a chance to check out my WW post for today!

Just Some Thoughts

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. They are ugly in a beautiful sort of way.

there is a kind of desolate beauty about these flowers...
but they also give an impression of what many would call ugly.

What a neat set of photos. I especially like the third down. Decay does have it's own beauty. It's great to see it through an artist's eye. Nicely done. Thanks for making me stop and think about how we so often stop looking at things based on assumptions and habit.

Hey Robert!

Or should I say Aloha? It just doesn't sound the same when I say it here!

I do remember you saying that! And yes...it was the same dish you had! YUM doesn't even describe it does it?

The wedding went well and as I edit I will be sharing some of the images on my blog. I was SO nervous and I just know that God gave me a calm heart and it went off great.

I hope you are well...

I love these images and I love taking pictures of things that are off the wall like these. Great shots. And they were so beautiful once!

Later Robert!

This was exactly why I posted my wilted tulip on Tuesday - there is still so much to see and you have captured it extremely well with these images.
I love your closeups - makes me want to practice, practice, practice!!!
Nicely done.

That's not ugly at all ! I protest ! In painting it would be called "modern art" lol !

Awesome view! I like it when people share how they see things.

I don't think I would ever use the word "ugly" to describe the photos you post! The 6th one down is my favorite, but they're all lovely!

I don't think I've ever seen anyone shoot flowers after their beauty has faded. These are very intriguing. Nicely shot, Robert! :D
