F is for Freedom

We are often asked if we are going to preserve Lily's Chinese culture as she grows up. Our typical response is that we will expose her to some. She will of course know her story and from where she came. If she shows interest, we will encourage further exploration. If she does not, we will not force it. Lily is an American and we want for her to be proud of her country. Here she will know the freedoms that she would otherwise not have known.

Robert, this is great... and moving. Seeing the American flag (and thinking about the freedom it represents) evokes a very special kind of emotion for me. Thank you for sharing.

"Freedom" and "Flag" -- you hit the jackpot with this photo for "F"!

I finally bought "Dreamer" on iTunes... but of course I'll still keep visiting your blog ;)

I love the picture. And I like the mini-blog underneath. As much as people are conserned with making sure the 'adopted' learn about their culture. I wonder what would happen if fellow Christians asked each other.. "Are you raising your child in the knowledge of the love of Jesus Christ?" I don't think I have EVER been asked that. I have been asked. "Are you teaching your kids about their Italian Heritage? Did you tell your kids they have American Indian in their blood? " I have responded to those people and say yes.. But I am teaching them about MY Father. My heritage with Him.. and How they to can be heirs to the throne.

Thank you for the reminder of freedom! In all cases of my life!

This is a wonderful capture Robert. I am getting ready to break into Star Spangled Banner as I type! Seriously.

Great shot!

I have a handful of friends who have adopted from China; they have them in language classes--presumably in hopes that someday the children will be specially equipped to preach the Good News to the Chinese.

Great picture, too!

Freedom is so taken for granted, I fear the day it is just "taken".

Wonderful photo - I agree it is a great choice for the letter F.
I worked with a young women who is trying to adopt a child from China. Each time I read your blog I think of her and hope her journey to her little girl is soon fulfilled.
Blessings Robert to you and your family.

I couldn't agree more. Three of my girls are half Native American...I got really tired of people telling me that I had to preserve their heritage, and bring them to pow wows, ect. They are also Finnish.....I did tell them something of the native culture, but to me it was more important to bring them up as good Christians and Canadians-well rounded individuals, and they are free to pursue more info as they wish.....
