Melt My Heart

To say the last couple of weeks have been hard would be an understatement. Assuming most of you also read Julianne's blog, I had not mentioned Lily's diagnosis of Nephrotic Syndrome. She is doing much much better. Unfortunately, the treatment is for her to be on the steroid Prednisolone. One of the side effects is mood swings. Mood swings is a rather mild term for what we've seen. Lily can go from laughing hysterically to crying fits and borderline tantrums at the drop of a hat. When these mood swings hit, without warning, I'm the last person Lily usually wants to see. Let me correct that. During such times, Mommy is the only person Lily wants to see; even though the crying doesn't always cease right away.

Having said that let me fast forward to today. When I got home from work Lily was in a wonderful mood. We played and played together. Then she ran to Julianne and told her, "I love Daddy." Gulp. She later repeated it again. Bigger gulp. But when she came up to me unprovoked and looked up at me and said, "I love you, Daddy" she melted my heart. She put her cheek against my hand as I asked her for a hug. She contemplated my request and stated, matter of factly, "Sure. Why not." as she proceeded to give me a hug AND a kiss. Big big big gulp.

I know the mood swings will return, but I'm loving today.

Five minutes later: Lily attempts to take a swipe at Daddy at the onset of another meltdown. She is currently balling in the corner on a time out while I await my apology.

Brace yourself. She has just started breaking and healing your heart.

Lily is in my prayers. I hope she is through the worst with no reoccurrance.

I don’t actually read her blog (maybe I should) so this is the first I have heard of Lily’s troubles. My heart goes out to you both… thank goodness Lily has loving patient parents to take care of her.

Hopeful thoughts,

I've actually not spent much time in blogland over the past few weeks and hadn't gotten to check Julianne's blog. I just caught myself up. You all will be in my prayers, especially Lily!

Oh goodness. I hadn't been reading Julianne's blog lately either and had no idea. How very frightening this must have been for all of you. Thank goodness things have turned around now, and that she's likely to be done with the prednisone in a few weeks. Prednisone and kids is a major-league no fun. When she does act out, remember that she loves you dearly, no matter what. She's letting loose in front of you because she trusts that she can - that you will still be right there loving her no matter what. Still, it's got to hurt.

I'll be holding all three of you close in my heart.

Like Kay, this is the first I'm hearing about Lily's condition. It's got to be tough, but I know how much you love her and your love will get you through. She sure is a photogenic kid, by the way...

Hi Robert... I haven't been around much visiting (all blogs) and I just found out about Lily... I'm so sorry to hear that... My second one was born with a kidney problem and went through surgery when he was 18 months, so my heart and prayers go out to you...

What a cute picture!!

I am sorry to hear about Lily and I hope you can get things back to normal quickly. I know that with parents like you and Julianne, Lily is in the best place she can be.

You are all in my prayers!

So sorry to hear your news. It sounds like the prognosis is ultimately pretty good for her and that's the most important thing. The important thing is to remember that the love is there behind the mood swings and rejoice in the good times which I suspect will become more regular as she adapts to her medication. I will keep you all in my prayers.

So happy to hear she is doing much better. And the 'I Love You'....you can never get too many!

Adding: I have been reading, but for some reason haven't had a chance to comment. Sorry it's late!

Hope you all are doing well.

So sorry to hear about Lily bug, poor kid...that Prednazone is nasty stuff.
My mom is 74, she's had what Lily has ever since she was a child although she wasn't diagnosed properly until about 20 years ago.
Mom has great doctors, they watch her counts closely, she's never really let it slow her down too much.
I'll hold Lily in my prayers, and her caregivers as well.

Hi Robert, I haven't been out and about as much as usual in the blogosphere, so this is the first time I've heard about all that's going on in your family.

Praying for all three of you, and I hope this passes quickly for Lily. It's good to record those sweet moments - they'll be a treasure to relive again and again.

God bless,
Dianne

I'm so sorry to hear about this. It's the first time I've visited in awhile.

Aside from the mood swings, I'd say that some of the things you described are not so abnormal. I have to warn you that the terrible threes are much worse than the terrible twos.

Hang in there!

You must've gone through a lot of stress lately. It's painful to see a child going through all this, but it has also make us appreciate the little things in life, and not take things for granted; like a simple "I love you'. It'll only get better, Robert.
