Mean People Suck

This morning at 3:30 a.m. we were awakened by a phone call. Never a good sign. My mother's alarm company was calling to inform me that her home alarm had been triggered at zone one, the front door. Knowing she was still out of town on a weekend getaway with her friends, we were not worried for her safety. The police were dispatched and I reached my mother via cell phone. At just after 6:00 a.m. I received a follow up call from the police department. Her home had in fact been broken into and the front door would no longer secure the residence. So I needed to go there until my mother could get home. The sound of the alarm and the phone call from the alarm company on my mother's answering machine seemed to do the trick getting the thieves out of her home quickly. They did run off with all of my mother's jewelery it seems. It's only stuff. She's ok. Her door is now secure. But mean people sure do suck.

Mean people do suck!

I am so glad your mom was gone and therefore was unharmed. I hate how it feels to be violated like that...

Yeah they sure do! Glad your mom wasn't there though and is safe!

Glad too that your mom was spared the trauma and that only stuff taken. It's a damn shame that we have to live among these creeps!

That really sucks, big time. At least your mother wasn't home, but still, that really sucks.

Boooo! I'm sorry. My parents' house was also robbed about 10 years ago. It's unnerving, and I don't know what else to say.

I'm so glad you're mom wasn't there.

UGH! That's all I can say!

So glad your mom wasn't there.... but it doesn't make it any better.

Appropriate title to your post. I am so sorry. :(

I am so glad that your mom was not home and is safe. Having been robbed myself, I know she probably doesn't feel safe, however, the chances are very good that the thieves knew she wasn't home and took the opportunity to break in.

They'll have to fence the jewelry. I hope they are caught. Thieves take more than things. They also take our sense of security. That is what I would have them prosecuted for.

Its a blessing that your mom was safely away!
I hope your recovery is still going smoothly!

I'm glad your mother wasn't home and that everyone is safe. Still, it's a terrible violation to have someone enter your home... and it looks like they weren't subtle about breaking in, either. You are certainly having an interesting couple of weeks, aren't you?

And I agree. Mean people do suck. But then they have to live inside their mean skins so I don't envy them their wicked lives.

Not long ago my brother's home was broken into. Someone did just like this - kicked the door in.
They did recover a computer - someone took it to a deputy who worked on them parttime. It was password protected - duh!
Yes, mean people suck!

Raven said it well; You sure are having a couple interesting weeks.

Not fun for your mom. Stuff yes; but still, stuff that meant something.

So, you had something taken (of course you semi-volunteered), your mom had something taken.....better give E the heads up!

Yes, they do. I'm glad your mother was out of the house when it happened -- it's bad enough to be robbed, but it seems worse if you're there.

Thank God she wasn't home, material things can be replaced.

This is what worries me which is why I have the hubs shopping around for an alarm. Our neighborhood is fairly quiet, but still...it's either that or a Rottweiler!

That totally sucks! I am glad everyone is okay, but it still does suck!

Ohhhhhh you can say THAT again! WHY can't people just leave other people's things alone? Is that really SO hard to do? I'm so sorry for your mom...

As everyone has said, I'm sorry too. What a scary violation. Glad there was no one home. Yes it is only stuff but I'm sure there was sentiment in some of that stuff.

ROBERT! I'm so sorry that I missed your surgery, but glad to hear that you are doing a little better. I haven't gotten to the post that tells me what the surgery was FOR. Is everything okay?! You will definitely be in our prayers.

I'm back. Really back, this time. I'm starting to get back through your work but I want to take my time and enjoy it. You'll be getting some late comments. Sorry for the delay!

What a terrible thing to happen to your mom. Makes you glad there was a good alarm system in place! Praise God she wasn't home!

Oh Robert, so sorry this happened to your mom, but I am thankful she was not there. There was a time there when my host family was able to travel and leave the house unlocked...

Ohh mannnn...those dirty rotters! I'm glad she's safe, that feeling of creepy people in your space takes a while to go away - been there.

Thank God that your mom was away. i am pleased that the alarm was good enough to make the burglar quit soon. Concerned about my mom who lives alone i bought her a panic button recently. Perhaps your mom should also consider a emergency medical pendant she can wear around her neck and press the button for two way voice communication in case of emergency.
