Learning As I Go

So this is all a learning process, right? Here are a few more shots from the pool party on Saturday. I really like the sequence. I had to crop which tells me I didn't get it right in the camera as I like to. But they were also action shots so I'm giving myself some slack. I also know to use a faster shutter speed next time. But overall, they're just plain fun I think.

As for the James Taylor concert, it was fantastic. He is such a talent. All the classics were played of course. And he included lots of cover tunes. We had a great time visiting with our friends, but the concert setting didn't allow enough time to sit and talk.

I almost got a butterfly in flight today. I needed a faster shutter speed -- but this is the closest I've come to getting it right. Learning some tthings is a whole lot more fun than learning others.

I'm glad the concert was great. I am still tinged with mild envy, but then if I left my house, maybe I could go to concerts too and I live in an age where I can hear music without leaving home, so I really don't have anything to complain about.

I think these photos are great fun and pretty remarkable for someone new to experimenting with action shots. I enjoyed them. They made me feel happy. I don't know if you can demand the same perfection of yourself in taking action photos as you do in stills. Your subject, after all, is moving and you can't necessarily have the same control of where you stand and shoot from as you might taking a flower or something still. Anyway, I enjoyed them.

Getting the jump into the pool is difficult. Trying to catch them in mid air and then the splash....but you did it! They are really good.

Glad you guys had a great time at the concert!

I am with you on WANTING getting the crop in the camera but I think cropping is A OK....mainly because you can never add space back so I like the option!

These are fun and that is how you learn by doing! Nice series!

Fun sequence -- I'm glad you shared them all! Yes, cutting yourself some slack is deserved with action shots!

Wow! Those are some great actions shots!! Looks like the pool party was lots of fun. And James Taylor!! My husband would be so jealous.

Robert, because I love your blog so much, I wanted to invite you to list it on MomDot under Daddy Blogs. It is a great way to draw new readers to your blog. They don't have a photo blog section yet, but I bet I could get them to start one for you. ;P
