Backyard Critters

Project Black came abruptly to an end. In last night's post I pondered out loud how much longer it would continue. Well we all got our answer not long after. While searching for black around my house I found myself chasing down a bumble bee along the vines on the side yard. I missed the bee but found these trappers instead. I was more than pleased that they held their positions as I got extremely close to capture their portraits.

Great shots. But, I am so. not. a. fan. of spiders. They scare me.

However, I have become more brave regarding them now that I am a momma. :)

OC prefers I not kill the spiders I find in the house, so if they'll cooperate and be still, I take them outside whenever I find them. I want you to know I just damn near tossed my laptop off the lanai. Your closeups are just a little too close, a little too crisp and a little too clear. Thanks.

Great captures!
That last little guy reminds me of a strange creature from Star Wars!

It's funny but I had a spider on my keyboard tonight. It was dark in the room except for the light from the CP when I saw him I turned on the overhead light and couldn't see it anywhere. I just knew it was down in my keyboard. It came crawling up under the 0. I never thought to grab my camera! True story.

Glad they're in your backyard and not mine! Though I suspect they are if I looked...

That first shot is SO creepy . . . which is a good thing in this case. And I love the purple backdrop on the second spider's portrait. Nicely done!

Well, I did it -- I decided to take the plunge and invest in a dSLR! I've been window shopping for a while, keeping my eyes peeled for good prices, and found a great deal on a Nikon D80 body on ebay. Plus a friend gave me a coupon. It should arrive next week! Ritz is having a summer sale this week on lenses, so I'll be looking at those as well (probably choosing the pay-over-time-without-interest option...).

I've been in classes all day and haven't gotten to check the mail, but I imagine I should be getting something today or tomorrow. The shot is printed and waiting to be put in the mail!

I LOVE to photograph insects; it's been difficult with a P&S but that doesn't stop me, lol. While spiders scare the ever-living daylights out of me (especially the jumping variety ;) ), they fascinate me--so diverse and beautiful in their markings! Don't get me started on the complexity of their webs.... Sooo, to me, these photographs are FUN. Glad you found them on the way to something else!

It was a disappointment for PB to end so quickly...I actually have unposted pictures which will have to be used for something else down the road....
