Geeeesh It's HOT

Blazing hot. According to Yahoo, it was 104 degrees here today. I think it was hotter. What does Yahoo know? In order to escape our heat, we decided to head to cooler climates. Along the way, we saw a bumper sticker that said, "Stop Global Whining" to which Julianne shouted, "I WANT that sticker!" Sorry to offend my friends on the left. But I digress.

We thought it would be nice to spend some time near the beach up in Ventura. So did everyone else. We opted against the $8.00 parking because I'm cheap trying to be more financially responsible spending enough on gas that I can't afford to park the car. I managed to find a spot on the street just outside the entrance to the beach. Although I cut it close I managed quite the parallel parking job. The owner of the house in front of which I parked, and more importantly, the Lexus in front of me, didn't think I did such a good job. He came over and examined his rear bumper, glared at me, and rubbed a scratch on his bumper. I told him I did not do that. He asked why his car moved. I told him to examine the scratch again because our car is green and the scratch was white. He then walked away but made sure to call me an ___hole first. Lovely vocabulary.

From there, we walked. In the heat. We didn't walk too long or far but it was not comfortable. I started taking some pictures but I was getting a bit cranky from the heat. And so was Lily. We finally concluded that it was just too blasted hot and we should return to the car. Fortunately, the name calling was as bad as it got. Our car was still in tact with no new scratches. We got in, blasted the air conditioning, and headed back to our scorching valley. Below are a few images I captured before I got too cranky.

Click on the above image to see it larger (like the other photos). You'll get a better view of the texture I applied here. I have to admit I stole the texture ideas from Christy. She does this much better than I have.

I love the fence shot, and the texture is very cool.

Hope the trip to the beach kept you cool.

It was hot on the east coast a few weeks ago, but it doesn't sound like it was quite that hot!

Philly driving and parking sounds similar to your experience -- I've heard it said that bumpers are used like bumpers here. Thankgoodness I was reimbursed for a parking pass!

Thankfully it hasn't been too hot here... I started working yesterday so sitting out in the sun will eventually be unavoidable but for now I'd rather the temperature stay where it is.

p.s. Anna (the younger) and I are sitting right next to each other looking at your blog :)

On separate computers though... I'm watching a soccer game while blog-surfing :-)

We've gone from extra hot (by NYS standards) to kind of chilly - a 35 degree drop - to being sort of more normal. But anyway - interesting collection of photos. I love the fence shot even without the texturing. I think you did a good job with that, though. Has an oil painting look to it.

It's been miserable. I think it was over 105 here yesterday. Some friends said it was like 110.... sure felt like it.

Love the shots!
I see Anna's influence in the first one. :)
I was liking the fence line - my country girl self would - but I loved it when I enlarged it. The texturing looks great. A canvas painting!
You were quick with the guy on the bike and the sign - good timing!
So, they really do have lifeguard stations like that, huh! It's neat vintage stuff.
The guy might have a Lexus but when it comes to substance I think he's a little lacking!

You have to remember that copying is flattery! ;)

Great pics!

I saw a bumper sticker I wanted the other day.....
"Some days, all I want to be is a missing person."

And good for you for keeping your cool with that guy...I would have "accidentally" bumped into his car on the way out.

The texture on the fence shot is beautiful. Well, the shot and the texture are both beautiful - that's more of what I meant to say.

I also like the bicycle with the sign. Very interesting composition. Especially with the cyclist in motion. Cool.

The heat? That's precisely why I don't live in a number of states and cities. Ha! Ha! I cannot stand heat like that.
