The Cross at Grant Park

Julianne found a photo contest that she is encouraging me to enter. I've never entered a contest before. The rules state that the "Photos must be 'recognizably Ventura' and taken in our city." The one and only place I wanted to shoot was The Cross at Grant Park. It screams "Ventura" to me. It is a site of significant importance for us. First and foremost, this is where we were married back in 1997. Rather than marrying in a church, we brought the church outside. And sadly, it is the location where we said goodbye to my father in law. Prior to meeting Julianne, it is where she said goodbye to her brother and grandfather as well.

It was quite the cloudy, gloomy day. Some patchy clouds would have been preferred but that didn't stop me. I wanted to capture the cross in a non traditional way. Hopefully I have done that. Depending on the categories, I will enter 1 to five of the following images. We'll see what happens.

Yes, enter the contest! All of these photos are lovely, but the two that speak to my soul are the two with the yellow flowers in them.

Yes, you should definitely enter! I like #2, 5, and 6...

And now it's my turn to be confused -- what does "recognizably Ventura" mean?

Christy,
It means that when you look at the image, it should be clear that you are looking at something in the city of Ventura. Someone from Ventura should not have to say, "Where was this taken?"

My favorites: 1, 2, and 3. 2 is my favorite.

Yes, I agree. Enter the contest. :) And tell us when you have won. :)

Wow Robert!
Julianne is right - enter the contest!
I like the second - perfect Easter Card image BTW!
The fifth one probably says more about Ventura and it's gorgeous.
I remember you saying you don't believe in luck - may your wonderful inspiration carry you to a win!

You should definitely enter.
I like the one with the cross in focus while the flowers are a tad out of focus.
I don't know if that one screams Ventura though. I also like the first one too....and that one just may yell Ventura!

Those are contest level pictures, all of them. It was such a treat coming here today. Pictures of the cross and the music. Food for the soul.

I think that I like 2 and 4. But I reserve the right to change my mind! I love the significance of the site, it makes these photos for me. I can see the happiness and also the sorrow. You've captured different moods in the various photos. Definitely enter, what do you have to lose?

Yup, says Ventura to me. Was a fine spring day when we all stood on that hill with our goaties and witnessed such a fine event.

My location would be (if I could only make it by dusk) would be the Pier. I'd get some shots of people and birds fishing in the early morning fog.

Shoot, didn't we take any photos back then?!? By the way, I tracked down Denis again a few months back. He lives out by Ohai somewhere...
