Hail to the King - Wordless Wednesday

Here is one of my favorite shots from our trip to China. While walking through an old farming village in Nanchang, through gestures I asked this family if I could take their picture. They happily agreed. The family positioned themselves just inside the doorway to their very small living quarters. The boys in China truly are treated like royalty. Keep in mind this was a very poor area. This photograph captures a portion of what I observed as seemingly typical: the boys dressed in the best clothes; the center of attention; allowed to do whatever they want without correction. They seemed so proud of their boy. We can't help but think that our daughter was born in such a village.

Awwww! My brother and his wife adopted a boy from China, but I'm not sure where he was from... must see if I can find out...

What a beautiful moment - and a beautiful memory. You've brought back similar memories from my trip to Shanghai last year. What a remarkable slice of the planet!

I've posted my Wordless Wednesday entry here and hope you'll drop by for a visit:

they look so happy! I think we're so used to seeing people from that region looking sour faced or despairing. It's good to know some people have joy.

happy wednesday

Interesting, what you've described seems to be exactly what we're seeing. It's a striking moment, I don't blame you for wanting to capture the shot.

A tradition set many centuries ago in China, that boys are always the 'Head' of the family. I guess this tradition still exists in more rural areas of China and many of other asian countries too.

Sweet picture, but being the mother of two daughters I feel daughters should be treated just as royally. But I guess I'm biased.

What a good-looking child he is. I can see why his parents look so proud.

Lovely picture of a family. My favorite pictures of Indonesia are pictures of the people. The scenery is stunning but it is the people that are the heart the country.

The boy is beautiful, like his eyes.

Great picture and very thought provoking regarding how it is in other places. Many Americans assume that everyone lives like they do.

Wonderful shot! i can't remember if I already told you or not :o) that we also traveled in Nanchang, and when we drove through the countryside we were just overwhelmed with the poverty. Our Annie is from that province, the Shang Rao orphanage about a 4 hr drive from Nanchang. We were told that Jiangxi province is one of the poorest in the country.

Also, please pray if you have a minute . . . . I have been presented with an opportunity to take on the regional office director position for Great Wall China Adoption here in the metro Denver area. It would only be part time which I require with my girls still pretty little, but I could mostly work from home. I don't know for sure what's going to happen, and could use all the prayers possible. Thanks for posting that beautiful picture. Nina

Great picture. It's unfortunate the culture doesn't allow little girls to be viewed in the same way.

Oh, see now that you're so popular, you probably won't even notice me saying that your shot is a real great one! Very interesting story being told there through the lens of your camera.

That is a great shot. And what an experience that must have been. Sadly, Chinese girls are treated like second class in families everywhere, not just in China....
